When a child has an underdeveloped upper and/or lower jaw, the airway could be impacted, and the child may struggle with other health issues during their lifetime. It may not be what you think so call us today at (415) 441-7766 for a free evaluation by Dr. Emily Wang.

Orofacial Myology / Myofunctional Therapy

Another hugely important component to airway health, orofacial myology or myofunctional therapy is personal training for the muscles of the mouth, face and airway. We all understand the need for physical therapy after an accident or other injury, namely to retrain the muscles to work correctly and prevent further dysfunction. Imagine breathing, swallowing and chewing your entire life the wrong way! It takes work to get it right and that is what orofacial myofunctional therapist (OMT) does.

OMT may improve breathing, swallowing, messy eating, speaking and other myofunctional disorders. This also includes an evaluation of tongue restrictions, or tongue ties and treatment as needed.
